Hamburg + Lubeck

In September of 2020 we hit the road headed for the second largest city in Germany, Hamburg. Home to the 3rd largest port in the world and, of gastronomic importance - Marzipan.

Burgers in Hamburg? Check.

We strolled the port stopping for lunch at Brücke 10 where Mark tried fischbrotchen. Retraced the steps of the Beatles taking in the eclectic graffiti art along the Reeperbahn while the kids napped and we sipped on Astra. Visiting St. Mary’s Church in Lubeck. St. Nikolai church tower overlooking the city.

Most memorable moment: lunch at a 16th century customs house where we sat al fresco and ordered a meal I still laugh about to this day.

Stay: JUFA Hotel Hamburg, HafenCity - boasting top notch COVID measures, breakfast, and indoor/outdoor (a pirates ship!) play areas my kids still wax poetic about. The family room we reserved wasn’t available so they upgraded us to two connecting rooms which felt positively palatial.

Notable Eats: pasta aglio at Alte Liebe, burgers (get the sweet potato fries!) at Hans im Gluck, tea and unique snacks at Wasserschloss Tea Shop, Brücke 10 (bonus points if you eat along the port), Zuckermonacharie cafe, Marzipan treats at Cafe Niedereger.
