A Weekend In: Trier
In October (2020), we road tripped to Trier! Situated on the Moselle River it is Deutschland’s oldest city and an UNESCO site.
First stop, Porta Nigra. The boys ran thru every inch acting as Sentries while Mark and I explored (tour/history via their website in English). The views of the city are - amazing. Lunching al fresco with the cathedral as our backdrop and a glass of rose’ in hand was the perfect pit stop midday. And, no day is complete (or pleasant!) without a stop or two at a spielplatz and Weimarer Allee 1, 54290 Trier did not disappoint. Nestled on the palace grounds it was a gorgeous spot to relax while the kids played. That evening, we headed back to our hotel (Imbiss Styles - great location, spacious updated family rooms and affordable too boot!) with takeaway, picnicking in our room.
The next day after breakfast we headed to the Trier Amphitheater which is a must stop. Pro Tip: go when they open to avoid the crowds, we had the place to ourselves! The boys loved learning about the amphitheater and reenacted gladiator duels. On our way home we stopped at Romische Villa Urbana, an idyllic manor set among the vineyards.
