Summer/Fall Reading + Humble Pie
Reading is one of my favorite past times. Give me a cozy blanket, quiet space and a page turner - short hair disappears into her own little world, and it is divine. Over the summer my local library was hosting a reading challenge. Since competitive is my first middle name, I signed up, and checked out a boat load of books I'd been dying to soak in.

While I adore paper books, one should heed advice and plan for electronic versions while travelling. Cuz the baggage attendant will blast you out for your ridiculously overweight luggage. Thank goodness M is a light packer. And yes, I unpacked both our suitcases, in the middle of the airport, and made that weight even. Ain't nobody got $100 to pay in overweight bag fees. The giant pink OVERWEIGHT sticker was punishment enough in my eyes.

HILARIOUS musings by the witty and ever-so-sassy Mindy Kaling. Funniest part? Her rationale as to why she believes people aren't "bad at remembering names".
Riveting story about running, passion, and rich in culture. The "science" behind the theories was a bit of a snore, but every other aspect was a page turning tale.
Dad Is Fat
Read this guy on vacation and it was HYSTERICAL. The tales of parenthood, raising a large family, and his work as a comedian. Laugh-out-loud funny.
Run Like A Mother (did not finish)
Love the idea, did not love the book. The End. My smother said if you don't have anything nice to say, shut your trap.
Funny tale about her life, and how she got to where she is today. Favorite passage? "Wetting her pants whilst skipping school, in the line to buy cigarettes. In front of her classmates."
Well versed and thoroughly documented read on animals - compassion toward them, ways to make their lives as full and happy as possible, and loads of resources on all things pets.

-- humble pie moment --
Back story: M has a crazy-ever-changing work schedule at the present, so when I read this book I was recovering from my stress fracture, and had inordinate amounts of time to spend with the hounds.
Anyway, I read this book like a hungry undergraduate - taking notes, googling sources, and the like. By the time the book ended I had started introducing M + R to a wider range of fruits/vegetables, plus started playing around with incorporating wet food, nutritional yeast, and whole grains into their diet. While M was at work. Unbeknownst to him. To his dismay he couldn't figure out why R wouldn't eat (cuz she likes nutritional yeast sprinkled on the top of her food now), and why they continue to imprint stronger with me (they imprinted to me far faster when we rescued them - but now its like on-the-back-of-my-heels stalking). I spent a quiet morning with the dogs, and when M came downstairs, announced the dogs were becoming vegetarians, I'd already called the vet, and ordered the food.
Fast forward to me phoning the veg dog seller, their vet, and I got schooled. The vet called back to inform me I should "do more research, and dogs are not historically vegetarian unless they have ailments (they don't). Any other time M would be ignoring my phone conversation, but he heard the entire exchange - that was pretty much a nail in the coffin.

The Fear Project (did not finish)
I'm all for finding ways to get out of my own and and bust out of this comfort zone, but this book was more "facts" and less "do".
Read right around the time of my stress fracture-that-wouldn't-leave. Inspirational, gripping, and inward looking. I took so many things away from this book. It is truly amazing how different your day turns out when you have an "attitude of gratitude".
The book had me swept up in a whirlwind of friendships, families, relationships, and the fact not every person/situation is the way it appears on the outside. Great book.
First, this is my all time favorite author. Second, her latest fable does not disappoint. Uproarous tale about a recently single gal with marriage on the mind. Oh the tangled webs this book weaves!
