How funky is your - Pidgeon?

 Day 4/108
October 30, 2013

YIN YOGA

Yin Yoga is literally the fountain of youth. It targets the connective tissues, ligaments, and joints of the body. Most importantly it accesses the hyaluronan which is distributed amongst the connective tissue of the body. It is a scientific fact that the more hyularonan a person has the more supple they are and the less inflammation they are subjected to.   This is the perfect complement to the physically dynamic styles of yoga you are practicing five days a week and will challenge you on an entirely new level through long, deep, sustained holds. The longer you hold, the deeper you heal, and the better you’re going to feel.

Yin came at the perfect time. After my awesome workout yesterday my body was longing for a slow, deep stretching class. While Virasana is a pose my body doesn't allow (tight hamstrings? Bad knees?), I am a huge fan of all things pigeon.  Calgon, take me away.

Day 5/108
October 31, 2013

YOGA DETOX

For centuries sweat has been used to detoxify the body and this deep twisting series will ring out toxins while flushing the internal organs with freshly oxygenated blood. This deep, cleansing class will help restore your spine’s natural range of motion, cleanse your organs, and stimulate circulation. Remove those toxins and renew from the inside out.

I knew it was Halloween.  I knew we were having people over. Yet I still did not plan my day better. Fail. Got through 2/3 of Detox before the trick o' treaters started ringing the bell and it was time to get into my costume.  Cuz we all know I love to entertain.  So we had a party. Shocker. Add in costumes, well then its heaven. Proper post coming soon.

Day 6/108
November 1, 2013

Holy exhausted batman. I'm no spring chicken. Going to bed after 1am and rising at 6am, only to spend the day on the road for work makes for one bleary eyed yogi. I had packed a bag for the gym to run, but after it took everything in me not to fall asleep at the wheel to get on the proper highway, I went straight home and did not collect $200. And proceeded to nap, hard for hours. After I finally woke up I hit the mat. Finished the remainder of day 5 (detox and hardcore). Double pigeon was just what I needed after hours in the car.

YOGA VITALITY

This class is all about life force. Vitality is the key to distinguishing the living from the nonliving and we lead healthy lives when we have healthy spines. This series of backbends will keep your spine strong and flexible. Incorporating a hybrid of martial arts movements, enjoy a unique approach to increasing your life force through physicality, focus, and determination.
Once done I began on day 6. Obviously, I was still zonked, hence pajama bottoms and a workout top. America's Next Top Model folks. Got through about 1/3, couldn't shut mind off, so instead of slogging through the workout, made the decision to stop, go to bed, and come back refreshed the next day. Cuz there is no dividend to half assing - anything.

Day 7/108

Time to kick POTM2013 into gear. Ran here to meet a friend for coffee.

Rode here for lunch. They were filming, and I prefer my .2 seconds of fame to be of me not stuffing my face with mac n cheese, we went here instead. Ran home. Which, after a belly full of pho, was a bad idea. But I survived. Barely. Got the hounds.

Ran with the hounds.

They are pretty darn excited to be running with their mama again (I forget my injury impacted the whole house, not just me).  So much so, we  pounded out 3.17 miles.  It was fantastic.  They were troopers.  And, as I type, they have been passed out for the last two hours.  #winning #peaceandquiet. Finished the remainder of Vitality (day 6), then proceeded straight for day 7:

MOUNTAIN POSE SERIES
The Mountain Pose series is a standing sequence passed down for thousands of years. This calming, meditative sequence gets into every joint and muscle in the body. Accessible for all types, this class is sure to soothe the mind and tone the body.

With that, my first week of UY108 is complete. Each class thus far had brought some great workouts.  I've decided not to participate in the meditation portion, but, as I said before, follow the UY meal plan as it applies to the dietary guidelines given by my nutritionist, tailored for my body. Please friend me on My Fitness Pal (here) to hold one another accountable.  And if you see me elbow deep in Halloween candy, call me out. It takes a village people. Plus, I just posted my before photos (here). If that doesn't make you want to follow me around and slap food out of my mouth, I don't know what will. My marathon thighs have spread.  Mercy. Oh, and please excuse the crappy photo non-skills, my camera crew was asleep so I tried to go it alone.  Clearly that was a terrible idea.
