Year Twenty Nine

Photo Diary: Salted Almond Ice Cream

Since I moved last year and subsequently finished the black hole of my existence and reason for my caffeine addiction grad school  I've made a tradition of bringing a home made dessert to all family functions.  In honor of Labor Day, I whipped up some ice cream.  You know, with the ice cream maker I got for Christmas four years ago that had yet been used. Yep.

Heat milk and cream in saucepan. Check.

Meanwhile, whisk egg yolks, sugar, and salt.  Check.

Caramelize nuts. Semi check. I turned the heat down, then cursed because nothing was happening.  It was a mystery - till I realized I'm an idiot and turned the burner back on. Details.

Note: When the recipe calls for the nuts to cool on a plate - do it. When you use wax paper instead it ends badly.  Not that I know from personal experience or anything.

Pour custard into ice cream maker.

Split open whole banana, scoop ice cream inside - ENJOY!
