Europe Christmas Markets: 2022

Memories from year two of Europe Christmas Markets. The real MVP are the motion sickness patches now take up permanent residence in my wallet because, carousels.

Nuremberg- kids market at Hans Sachs Platz was a haven for children. Rides, crafts and lebkuchen decorating, oh my! Strolling around this walled city at night was especially lovely.

Walluf - a one day village celebration where I had my first weissgluhwein.

Kloster Erbach - Set on former monastery grounds, this was a neat two for one exploring the grounds (Gutenberg presses shouldn’t be missed), feasted on game sausage under a tee-pee, and took in the Yunuene immersive Art exhibit.

Köln - The largest market we’ve visited to date, and my is it an experience to be remembered! We strolled through the city stopping at three of their seven markets (Angel, Heinzel, Advent), noshing on warm crepes slathered in nutella, sausages, and plenty of hot chocolate and gluhwein. Capped off the day with a stop at my favorite local bakery Zimmerman, for an armful of butter cookies that melt in your mouth and I considered hoarding from my family.

Wiesbaden (2nd year)- Mark had a work holiday party in the city so the kids and I met him at Dernsches Gelande for a quick lap around. A ride on the carousels, Riesenrad and our first kartofelpuffer mit applesauce before heading home for dinner.

Frankfurt (2nd year) - We coupled the market on Romerplatz with the Chagall exhibit making our trip into the city a two for one. The rooftop orchestra concert made the evening truly magical.
