Photo Diary: It's a bird -

Earlier this month my gal pal and I raced in the RUSH Superhero 5k benefiting The Sparrow's Nest Maternity Home which provides a CHRIST centered shelter and to educate homeless, pregnant and parenting young women by providing a wide range of services that empower them to make positive and healthy life decisions for themselves and their babies.

And in the swag bag was a cape - SOLD.

First, I needed a costume -

Bought iron on - here

Tank - Walmart. It was too big, but $4.99 so I didn't care

Headpiece - Target, $1 cut to size
Capris - Under Armour (bought at outlet years ago)
White Long Sleeve - M's closet (it was WAY colder than anticipated)
Wrist Cuffs - My Kitsch
Run gear - here

Next, a photo shoot(s) courtesy of our official photog/driver/cheerleader, M.

It was "brisk" but bearable. The race is small, so line up to start was really just a gathering near the start, which was refreshing not to have to worry about corrals and such. We ran along the river on a path/trail - no real hills, hit a turn around where I passed A, waved, and let her know what was ahead - "turn around in about 2 minutes, you're almost there!" and headed back towards the start/finish. It was a fun race - lots of families, kids, and costumed runners. It was rainy so I ditched my ancient iPod in the effort to conserve her life longer. I can't say it was "liberating", but I did manage to calm my monkey OCD mind and focused on my foot falls and breathing which helped (breathing tips - here). I didn't do a Garmin check till after the turn around, and realized, I may pull a PR so I sped up and made sure to pace the guy I'd be doing the yo-yo dance with to keep me on task. Once we passed the trees along the river there was a clearing where I saw M, and the finish. I ran like I stole something, crossed the finish and looked up - 28:58!

P effing R! I'd shaved 4 minutes off my time! (official race recap - here)

Bib: 163
Time: 28:58; 7th in age, 17th in gender, 51st overall

Slowed my pace, turned around and doubled back to cheer on A to the finish. She PR'd too!

After we collected ourselves we hit up a few booths, one of which was Advocare, and I've heard great things about it. The drink was delightful, and they were giving out gift bags of things to try - score! There was also a PT tent I REALLY wanted to do some work on my  hips, but the line was long and we were starving. So we headed here for post PR'ing brekkie. Holy party in my mouth. Had an omelet (meh), pecan pancakes (amazeballs), and because I was sitting in the middle, put a HURTING on both A and M's cheese hash browns.  I could bath in those hash browns...
