Gone Girl

On our last trip I found myself without a book to read, so I grabbed an old favorite, Confessions of a Shopaholic (her newest book just came out and I'm dying to gobble it up).

The thought of buying a book at the airport (so expensive, don't) crossed my mind, but nothing really grabbed me.

As fate would have it, I began chatting with a woman at the conference who happened to be reading Gone Girl, so each day she'd give me the scoop, about how twisty-topsy-turvy the plot was.

On the last day, she gave me the book.

I jumped in head first, devouring it in pieces, ooh and aaahing at the plot twists (so many!). Then I went and did the silliest thing -- saw the movie.

Halfway through the book.

I know, the horror. My OCD was in knots when that life choice. In my defense, it was $5 movie Wednesday so I HAD to.  Frugality made me do it.

Did I enjoy the movie? Sure. It was entertaining and fast paced. And $5, let's not forget that.

The book was better, far better (isn't that always the case?). Clearly worried (prior to seeing the film) I'd abandon the book, satisfied (enough) with the movie, I decided good or bad, I'd finish the book. Boy am I glad I did! It was fantastic, my heart is still pounding in my ears, and I spent the last 40 minutes of my lunch break hovered over the book lost in a story so twisted even my brain movies are no match.

So go, read the book, grab a glass of wine and enjoy. Its a wild, wild ride.

Have you read it? Seen the movie? I'd love to hear your thoughts!
